However, almost two months after Convention Weekend, Sanders dropped out of the race, leaving the Democratic Nomination in the hands of President Joe Biden.
The theme for the 2020 Presidential Gala:
Reflected the importance of environmentalism within the Democratic party was well as in our own efforts to be more sustainable.
EARTH MONTH 2019
For Earth Month 2019, we launched a comprehensive initiative to raise awareness about sustainability. Compiling statistics from the campus energy database and student organizations, the outreach included everything from current housing energy consumption to dining hall food waste. In addition to digital signage around campus, we engaged with our audience across all social media platforms to promote sustainable living.
“I truly believe the best way to ensure the longevity of this institution is to protect the health of the planet and its people. Mock Con has always had a focus on our local environment. This time, we are just explicitly citing this dedication.”
But being sustainable isn’t just about recycling or conserving water, it’s about enjoying the world around us.
It’s important not only to respect the planet in waste production and energy consumption but also to admire its natural beauty. We often see the world through our screens and, in doing so, miss so much.
The Delegates' Parade
Marking the commencement of Convention Weekend and fostering student engagement and excitement, State Delegations’ floats lined the streets of downtown Lexington as onlookers cheered on the mass of students in each float.
With 98% on-campus involvement, including faculty & staff, many students took advantage of the Delegates’ Fair in September of 2019 to initiate their participation in Mock Con. In one day, the size of Mock Con increased by 10x.
